Reference
for Vince Stephens
During
the academic year 2007/2008 I tutored Vince Stephens on the Interactive Media
module of the Media and Cultural Studies BA award. The module requires students
to develop projects using a range of web-oriented media.
The
Media and Cultural Studies award at UWE encourages students to take a critical
approach to practice. Linking production with theory and emphasising the
production of media as a critical tool and a method of intellectual inquiry, as
well as a form of creative expression.
Vince
was one of the most enthusiastic, hardest working and determined students that
I tutored that year. His hard work was coupled with a healthy intellectual and
practical curiosity. He also demonstrated the ability to learn new software and
techniques quickly and easily. This was exemplified by his provocative and
ambitious final project that wove video and interactive elements together in
powerful and unexpected ways.
Vince
has the discipline and ambition to succeed at a very high level. His
interactive
media project achieved a first class grade. He is very eager to push his
practical and theoretical abilities. He is articulate and participates in group
discussions and group work with an open and positive attitude. His pro-active
approach extended to co founding a media production society to assist in the
organisation of the end of year media production show.
I
am sure that with his committed and self initiated approach he would thrive on
the challenge that interactive and video arts would give him.
